or how you shouldn’t like every post where people use your hashtag.
EDIT: Since the article was published and featured on several Reddit subforums the CM team from Jana unliked the photos.
I am a comedian. Just how much of a comedian shows you a thing I like to say about myself: ‘I am a comedian first, a human being second.’
Meaning I will do pretty much anything for a good joke and definitely anything for a great one.
So here’s the story. For a while now Jana Water has had a campaign called ‘Voda S Porukom’ (Croatian) which in translation means ‘Water With A Message’. They print an inspirational quote on each bottle and encourage you to use the hashtag #VodaSPorukom if posting on any social media site.
Here is where I come in. The quotes are great but so many of them are so vague they can mean almost anything if put in the right context, or in this case — the absolute wrong one.
Below are screenshots from my Instagram account which show you the photo of the bottle i.e. quote and the hashtags I used.

Jana
So you can see that 3 weeks ago I got a quote saying: “You can almost always enjoy everything if you decide firmly in yourself.” and with that photo I used the official hashtag but also added my own which says rape (#silovanje) in Croatian. It’s not the smartest of jokes but it was funny to me and to 51 individuals who follow me. The 52nd was a surprise because it was a like from the official Jana Water account on Instagram.
It intrigued me and I decided to test my theory that whey will like anything that has a hashtag attached to it.
So 1 week ago with the photo of the Jana bottle on which said: “Once you have your love for yourself, it’s with you for the rest of your life.” I put the official hashtag and the hashtag #masturbacija which in translation means masturbation. Surprise, surprise — they liked it again!

Now there a few scenarios why they liked it. 1st one is that they have a bot that likes all the content that has the official hashtag which is just plain unprofessional and something I always advise against. Why? Because bots can put you in the position of liking a rape and masturbation jokes which is not something that brands usually should involve themselves in.
2nd scenario is that whomever is managing the account is doing bot’s work and just hitting like on every post with the hashtag.
The 3rd, and least likely scenario, is that the CM of the account genuinely liked my jokes and thought — what’s the worst that could happen. Let’s show this guy we have a sense of humor and go along with it. Cheers to the CM if this one is true, I applaud you for your sense of humor.
The moral of the story is social media is not a joke or something you should entrust to a kid to run for couple of hundred bucks per month. Big brands like this should have higher standards. They should learn on other brand’s mistakes on social media but they just don’t seem to want to.
I don’t care, I’m here only to get the laughs.
Cheers,
Aleks
